America’s Literacy Directory

America’s Literacy Directory is a searchable database of literacy programs across the United States. ALD is a service of the National Institute for Literacy and other organizations. Users can search for literacy programs for adults and youth based on area code or city and state. Searches can also be limited by the type of instruction needed (i.e. GED, reading and writing, etc…). Volunteers looking for tutoring opportunities will find this site useful too.

Literacy.org

Literacy.org is a joint venture between the National Literacy Institute and the National Center on Adult Literacy. Its goal is to be a gateway to electronic resources and tools for the literacy community.

National Coalition for Literacy

The National Coalition for Literacy was formed out of 11 national organizations concerned with adult literacy. The goal of this organization “is to advance adult education, language, and literacy in the United States.” It does this through policy development, advocacy and collaboration with other organizations.

ProLiteracy Worldwide

A merger of the world's two largest adult volunteer literacy organizations, Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc., ProLiteracy Worldwide is represented in 45 developing countries as well as in the U.S. and serves more than 350,000 adult new learners annually. It sponsors educational programs and services to empower adults and their families by assisting them to acquire the literacy practices and skills they need to function more effectively in their daily lives.
