Cyrla lives with her Dutch relatives in Nazi-occupied Holland. She thought she was successfully hiding the fact that she is half-Jewish - until neighbors threaten to expose her identity. Through a cruel twist of fate, Cyrla enters a Lebensborn as her pregnant cousin, Anneke. Cyrla wants to keep the child, though, so she resolves to leave the maternity home before the baby is born. Richard North Patterson

San Francisco lawyer David Wolfe had his life all planned -- marriage to a prominent daughter of a Holocaust survivor and then a brilliant political career which just might take him all the way to the White House. One day, on the way to that perfect life, Wolfe gets a phone call from Hana Arif, a Palestinian woman he loved during law school but hasn't heard from in 13 years. Then the Israeli prime minister is assassinated in San Francisco and Hana is accused of being the mastermind of the plot. This book delves into the controversies and tragedies of the Middle East and provides lots of food for thought as well as a good story.

The Terror Dream Fear and Fantasy in Post 9/11 Americaposted by Nancy
The Terror Dream Fear and Fantasy in Post 9/11 America
by
Susan Faludi

It's probably not fair to blog a book when you're only in the middle of Chapter 3, but nevermind. Faludi recalls all the posturing and swagger of the days after 9/11--do you remember that Donald Rumsfeld was called "Rumstud" and a "Babe Magnet?" Yuck. Her premise is that, instead of making "Superheros" (Truly in the manner of Marvel Comics), we would be wiser to really consider what had happened to our country, and more importantly, why. She shows how we have fallen back on our mythical selves instead of reflecting on who we really are. And that's just up to the middle of Ch. 3.
