Sister Library
The West Bloomfield Township Public Library, as part of the Sister Libraries
Program coordinated by the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information
Science and Sister Cities International was paired with its sister library
Higashiura Public Library in Awaji City, Japan in 1999. This collection
features various artworks and gifts from our sister library and reflects
the special relationship that has developed between the two libraries.

Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society
The Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society has provided the Library with photos of local
history to add to our digital collection. The collection currently contains over 1600 images.

Lakes of West Bloomfield
West Bloomfield area lakes throughout the last century are displayed in this collection through paintings and photographs.
There are also images of the recreation offered by the lakes in both summer and winter.

Librarian Book Reviews
The Library Staff have been putting together a collection of podcasts consisting of book reviews of
some of their favorite titles. This collection will continue to grow.
Michigan Military Academy
This collection shows what the Michigan Military Academy was like when it was in operation. Images
include the architecture, grounds, various events taking place and documents related to the Michigan
Military Academy. Additionally, images of some of those who attended or worked at the Academy are
included.

1976 West Bloomfield Tornado
In March of 1976, an F4 tornado touched down in West Bloomfield leaving
1 person dead and 55 injured while destroying 91 homes and 23 businesses.

This collection contains pictures of local hotels, including the Orchard Lake Hotel and grounds, and local

West Bloomfield Memoirs
These memoirs cover a range of time from the 1800s to the 1970s. They all depict West Bloomfield
at a time when farming was the main occupation and when the closest “city” was Pontiac. In their
entirety, these histories offer a glimpse of what living in the West Bloomfield area was like when
it was considered rural.
